Resize function hangs, does not work
« on: May 10, 2005, 07:58:44 PM »
Hi. Absolutely great application. One problem :

My users send in images bigger than the size I would like (I'd like 640 x 480 format). In another installation of your application I just resize them afterwards using the resize image function in the control panel, but this time it does not work :

- On resizing the chosen image (s), the application goes no further than the note "resizing image..."
- when I check out the image, the thumbnail is unaffected but the main image is not available any more from the web site,
- when looking at the files on the server (4images/data/media/...) I can see that the image is still there but has a suffix like .jpg.bak

I'm using the latest version of the application on a server with my ISP. Safe mode is off. The language pack is French.

Any ideas ?
I'd be really grateful for an answer on this one.

Thanks

I have no direct, applicable knowledge on this but it might help others if you included the name of the graphics software you are using and its version number.

Yes, quite right. Thanks for the answer.

The image software I'm using is the GD package installed on my ISP's server.

I tried another solution found in your forum troubleshooting section : trashing the numbered data/media/image folder, then reinstalling one with ftp and resetting the chmod to 777, but to no avail.

For info, the website is at :

is this happening to any images or with a specific image?
Do u have access to the log files?

Thanks for your replies.

I do not know where to look for the error logs. Can you help ?

In answer to your other question :
The problem occurs for all the images in all the categories and sub-categories.

The error message I get when resizing is as follows :

Quote
Convertir l'image: DSCF0170.jpg (1280x960) ....
Warning: getimagesize(./../data/media/2/DSCF0170.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/site104/web/4images/includes/image_utils.php on line 171

Erreur sur la convertion de l'image!

But I have checked and the file is there allright, except it has received a new extension .bak after the resize operation.

Then try this FAQ error topic

FAQ: Warning: Unable to create './../data/media/1/file.gif'...

Also check your directory permissions

Hi.

I have already tried that one, but all my data/media/... and data/thumbnail/... folders are chmod 777 as far as I can see. I also tried trashing one and recreating it through ftp, but that did not solve the problem.

strangely, the resize image script used from the control panel gets as far as renaming the original image file by adding an additional .bak extension to it, then says it can't find it !  :-)

Any other ideas are welcome.

Thanks

Things are getting more precise.

The problem only occurs where someone has uploaded a photo of 1280 pixels width (or height). Photos of 1024 pixels width or height can be resized with no problem.

Does this make things clearer for anyone to help me ?

Thanks in advance,

AH
