How to get thumbnails done?

Just installed 4images (pretty good script btw ;) ), but can't seem to get the thumbnailer to work, i.e it shows JPG instead the image!

Was wondering what do I need to do in order to get it to work (on control panel it says to install module...)

already did but ended up with imagemagik related threads and don«t really wanna play with it, and got the impression there are other alternatives!
