New category uploads not showing on index.php page

Hello I am new here. I have been configuring 4images to purchase and am almost done.
Please forgive me if this has been covered but I have read so many topics and cannot read the foreign ones. My eyes are crossing!
 
I have everything working now except on my index.php page there are 3 columns, as I planned, but only one photo and at the top only the one photo showing in the folders. What ever is added in each category is there when you go to the different categories but not showing up on the index page.?? On the index page the folders are empty (except one).
I hope I have expalined this well enough.
Can anyone please help?

I think it may have something to do with the fact that I am configuring this to use remote url's only. The one photo and the folder contents of such that is showing on the index page was added by uploading to my server. The other photos were added by using the remote urls's.  they are working fine on the other pages just not adding to the index.php page.
