VIDEO Gallery (with thumbnails of the video clips)
« on: May 04, 2005, 09:42:42 PM »
Any way to make this gallery program behave like a VIDEO gallery?  I know it supports video files, but I'd like the thumbnail of the video clips to be an actual frame from the clip, and not a generic WMV or AVI image.

Hello,

Use the free application Fraps (http://www.fraps.com/) to capture a screenshot from your movie.
Then you are able to create a thumbnail.

There is no way to grab a frame from video to make a thumbnail using the software already installed on a typical web server.  4images cannot do this either.  You have to upload a thumbnail or find some other PHP/scripting package that will do it on the server (if it even exists)

Hi Chris,

I'm using Fraps all the time and its works.
Play the movie in a media player, run Fraps, click F10 and done.
All you have to do is change the size of the captured picture and upload it as a thumbnail.

regards,

Jan

Thanks for your input.  I just make the thumbnails by hand.

This is a bit off topic, but I haven't been able to find anything closer than this.

I have been trying to upload video files. I've tried both .rm (Real Audio's video format) and .mov (QuickTime). The upload puts up the "progress" window, but nothing ever advances beyond that point.

Can anyone point me in some direction to get some information on what might be going wrong?
Thanks,
David

Hello David,

Probably your files are larger than 2mb.

Jan,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I've been looking for this answer off and on for weeks! I had changed the limit in the control panel/settings but didn't realize that PHP had a limit. Unfortunately, the .htaccess approach didn't work with my hoster. Now I just have to size it better and make it work in the slide show.

Again, thank you very much.
David

Hello David,

It's still possible to use large files.

Quote
The other option is to first upload the file via FTP and then use the "Check New Images" function inside the admin control panel
