Thee more questions:
1. can you confirm that these .zip files will not open on another MAC computer?
2. can you test on unmodified 4images? (you can download it from here)
3. if even unmodified 4images doesn't work, can you test on the latest v1.7.6?

Your first three "must do" before you ask a question:
Please do not PM me asking for help unless you've been specifically asked to do so. Such PMs will be deleted without answer. (forum rule #6)

V@no,
just to let you know, I tried his files on our Mac at work, 10.5 (latest) I tried firefox and safari and both gave a decompression error when I tried to open them. They opened fine on the pc.

I won't be able to test again till I get back to work on Monday, but yes, it looks like it does it on any Mac.

Yes, the last attached file contain the error messages after commenting needed lines in the code - the file corruption is expected.

Also, I've added one more question for your monday's tests in my reply above ;)

Test done with the original v1.7.
Same error with zip/lightbox download (see attached file that can be opened altough mac says that file is corrupted).
The standard download works fine.
I cannot test with windows since I have installed the gallery locally on a mac.

In ten minutes I should be able to let you know about the v1.7.6. Just the time to install it

Is "Use GZip compression" enabled in the settings?

Any news about this issue?

nino367 and V@no,
I finnaly had time to play around at work this morning with the Mac and found something interesting...
It does the same thing on my website also, I think Mac has changed something in thier newer OS. I do not have version 9 mac laying around to test to cnfirm that but this may be a problem with 4images on the Mac side...
I am also members of other 4images sites but don't have my logon stuff at work to test them to see if it is all installs of 4images. I do not have a plain install to test here at work but I may be able to take the mac home and test on my network at home.
I know a couple of Mac gurus but it may take some time to talk to them. Have to find a reason to call them, they are our customers for the company that I work for and this really isn't company related question to ask them, have to come up with a tap dance to get there input.

Will let you know what I find.

Thanks budduke, now I did so many tests that lightbox doesn't work on windows too :-)).
I'll go back to previous version to let it work on windows in the meantime.

ciao

About the Mac zip downloading,
It appears to be a Mac issue, All the google searches and my Mac guru friends told me that you should not use the default decrompression on the newer macs, it is junk. They said to use stuffit or other types of software.
When I used any of them everything was fine. I also tested this on an un-modified version of 1.7.6 4images and the same thing happens.

In other words, your mac users should ignore the error message and then unzip the file using a better unzipping utility for the mac. Firefox actually asks you what program to use to unzip it, safari does not.

I also went into the download.php file and changed 2 instances of .zip to .rar and that seemed to fix it on the mac side. It no longer tried to unzip it and then you had to run another program to unzip it. On the PC side you would also have to have an utility that would unzip .rar files (winrar comes to mind).
The real fix would be to modify the download.php code so it would only change the .zip extension to .rar if it saw the OS being a mac and version 10 and above but I am just going to e-mail my mac users and tell them to use another program to unzip the pictures and leave it at that.
