Newbie questions- Help Files and Permissions

I have searched the forums but don't seem to be able to find two things:
1- Is a user's manual or help file on how to use 4images?  I have stumbled around and posted 60+ pics, but I don't know if I am doing it optimally.
2- My users permissions are all blank in IE or Firefox.  When I "Edit Users => Options, Permissions, there are no check boxes ticked, nor anything visible for any of the categories.  If I tick some of the boxes and save, the screen comes back with all tick boxes cleared.  Am I missing something?    (However, my users do seem to be able to view  and post comments on my pics which is what I wanted.  But I don't want them to upload pics themselves.)

Permissions are no done by user. Is done by categories. To edit permission, go to ACP - > Categories - > Edit categories. This is by user level and no by user id. You can use usergroups for grouping too.
