Random Images for my homepage

Right now I show 5 rows of 4 images to show 20 images on my homepage. As per the default setting the newest images always show up first. I would like to show a little more diversity than just one catagory (I upload more than 20 images at a time) of images there so I am looking to show random images from any category.

I am very new and have read for a couple of hours in these forums to figure out how it's done but I just can't seem to get it. I know it's a question that's often asked so I appologize for repeating.

I set my new images time to "0" so I could get the little red "new" to go away. From what I can read of that script change, it would simply display the same thing it displays now.

I guess you can edit thumbnail_bit template and get rid of that "new" message
