if you have the access... make a subdomain for your 4images script. just protect that subdomain with the .htaccess file, and keep videos and stuff on a different domain.
this should solve your problem (unless you keep those files in 4images)

I believe the error about the gif means your GD version cannot process gif images. the newer versions do not have gif support do to a legal issue.
however, not sure why it won't process jpegs
if you've got 5 meg of server space you don't mind using.. upload netpbm. I use it on a few sites, and it works fine. installation is simple. just upload the files
