Has everyone figured out how to add a new date searching field in the search page?

I would like to be able to search pictures by date, month or year without having to write the date in the picture's name.

As well, I think this script would need a new feature so the admin can put and edit the date for the picture.

I would write all the changes for my site if anyone else has done it before or the dev. team has no plans to add this to new releases.
