Discussion & Troubleshooting / Why is this happening and is this required?

When I begin using 4 image, I could upload images without getting any errors. After I made more categories, I couldn't upload images under the new categories. Yet I could upload under the categories that I started my 4image with. I've solved the problem by checking the file under data>media but I dont understand why this is happening. Anyone care to explain? AND, does the files under data>media all have to be in 777?
