Title: thumbnails, etc. with netPBM (again....)
Post by: WaywardTraveller on June 26, 2003, 12:24:11 AM
Hello,
I am enjoying 4Images a lot - the only problem I am having is getting it to work with netPBM or ImageMagick.

I gave up on IM since it seems much too complicated to install for someone with only a CPanel interface (no telnet for me).  I followed someone's advice to download the binary version of netPBM, unpack it locally and FTP the files to my gallery directory.  I've done that and 4Images recognizes that I have PBM, but when I enable auto Thumbnail creation it doesn't give me an error message...but doesn't give me a thumbnail either!  When I go to my gallery and look at the front page all I get are those black-white eye images with JPG, PNG, etc. on them.

I suspect it might be the binaries.  Since there is virtually NO decent documentation whatsoever for newbies like me who don't know the hardcore server-side stuff, can someone please tell me which binaries I need for a server running Apache 1.3.27 (Unix)?  I tried the netpbm1.1-gallery1.0-linux2.2-redhat6.2-intel version, but it doesn't seem to work.

The sourceforge.net site is really bad for documentation, so if someone can tell me exactly what I need to do to get this running with auto thumbnailing, I would appreciate it.

peace

-- You should have 12 files.

-- chmod 755 the binaries

-- insert local path to netpbm in CP  (/var/www/html/yourpath/

it worked for me ...
