I dowloaded the NetPBM binaries I thought I needed from sourceforge, Linux/redhat, chmoded them and got the correct path but I keep getting an "error creating thumbnails" and thats it, no other explanation, did I download the right package, this is my server specs, I asked my host to install the program on the server but they wouldnt...
Linux
Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) mod_log_bytes/0.3 mod_bwlimited/1.0 PHP/4.2.3 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_ssl/2.8.11 OpenSSL/0.9.6b
Thanks
GD is installed on the server but it will not do gif's, if I could get gif's thumbnailed it would be completely perfect.

I have no idea if that is the correct version for your server, but if it matches your servers specs I guess it is.
I don't know what you did already, but as far as I know you only have to upload the binaries to a folder somewhere at your webserver, make it a folder called NetPBM for instance, and make sure that folder and all the files inside are CHmoded 777
Then link to that folder in the settings menu of 4images and it should work, there is no further installation needed as far as I know.
Cheers,
