"User Groups" and "Private" users

Hi,

I have 2 questions I need some help with. Please know that I appreciate the product you have created and the time to spend to anwer questions like these:

1) I do not understand what creating a user group allows me to do. When I create a user group, and then assign a user to a user group what does this accomplish? can you provide an example of when it will be useful to create a user group?

2) What is the "Private" option when creating users? If I set the user level for someone to "Private" what does this do and what is an example of how it can be used to simplify administrating the gallery?
