RSS Feed- Can someone explain

Could someone kindly explain what an rss feed is and what it is used for?

On the 1.7.3 gallery page there is a small icon that links to the rss.php

Is this a security problem?

I have no clue and am going to look for a cold beer for me and the first one that can explain in english to me!

Veno I went and read and it is still greek to me like half of the post here still are.

Why is that icon on the gallery pages and why does it link to rss.php? WHen you click on it , it opens the php file in another window.

Can you give me an example or an analogy of an rss feed.

I went and read all the rss stuff again and I am still not sure of it's purpose.

This is what is in the rss.php file that I presume 4images is making automatically.

ok, I've updated my post above, the link wasnt correct, try now again.
also, beliver or not, google has more than enough information about RSS, what it is, what it does and how to use it. Give it a shot
