Total registered user count?

I did a few searches for info on this topic but the only thing that came up was a thread in German (I believe).  I couldn't read it ;p  So I am asking- is there a way that I can add a total count of registered users on the index page where the Currently Active Users box is?  P.S.- I luv this gallery script! <3  It's the best one I've ever used.
