Catagory Layout HELP!!!

Is there any way how i can change teh catagory layout, well what i mean, is there a way to change the look of the catagories, i at this one web gallery that uses 4images, and i liked the way how their catagories are:


I was wondering if i was bale to do something like that, have a picture show up in the catagories

is there a way to have the catagory images go down vertical like in the pic above?

ACP (Admin Control Panel) -> Settings -> under categories settings set "Number of table cells" to 1
