I tried to install 4images and I simply get this error message above. I installed XAMPP win32-1.6.4 containing:
# Apache HTTPD 2.2.6 + Openssl 0.9.8e
# MySQL 5.0.45
# PHP 5.2.4
# PHP 4.4.7
# phpMyAdmin 2.11.1

I switched to PHP 4.4.7

safe_mode = Off in php4.ini is correct

I copied the 4images folder into htdocs of XAMPP and I get the installation site in firefox correctly under 127.0.0.1/4images/install.php

I filled out the form with the following parameter:

Database server hostname: 127.0.0.1    (I also tested 127.0.0.1/4images)
Database name: pictures_gallery        (I understand the system in this way, that this database will be created by the 4images installation, or must I creat it myself in phpMyadmin ??!!)
Database username: bernjul     (I created this user in PHPMyadmin with ALL PRIVILEGES)
Database password: I left it empty, I didn't choosed one, bernjul got no password
Prefix for tables in database: 4images_
Admin username: root
Admin password: and YES I typed in the password...

I'm searching for hours now - I only get the  message 'An unexpected error occured. Please try again later.'

What's wrong?

Thanx for your quick answer.

I created an empty database "pictures_gallery" without any tables and checked if user 'bernjul' got the rights for this database.

And I used 'localhost' instead of 127.0.0.1 within the form.

Same result.

now I first tried to import the tables of the database manually in PHPMYadmin by 4images\data\database\default\mysql_default.sql
all tables are created successfully
bernjul got all rights for this database

same result: 'An unexpected error occured. Please try again later.'

Hello;
I tried Xampp for a while and was a little bored (most of all with the paranoid Linux LAMPP version).
If you work on a Windows based computer, whynot use 4images Mobile Server?
As Wampp is, it is an Apache, Php, MySQL environment, provided with an installed version of 4images 1.7.4. It also can be launched from an USB drive, and whynot a CD-ROM.
Please just try it and tell what is your own opinion about it.

Regards.

@manurom

Thank you so much!!! I was nearly desparated and I still don't know why it doesn't worked with XAMPP. Maybe there is one parameter in one of hundrets of files which must be changed - I don't know and I don't care anymore.

You're welcome, bernjul.

I was fed up with existing tools as XAMPP, EasyPHP, and other, because I just needed a tool to test my own gallery, both on my computer and on a few another ones.

Some of my friends needed also such a tool. I did not want to give them anything that makes them loose their time configuring their tool, while their time was basically destined to develop an improve their own websites.

So I tried to produce a program wich could be usable, without having to make any configuration, and most of all, having 4images 1.7.4 embedded.

Please feel free to post your experience in the original thread. Don't hesitate to describe lacks and bugs. I really need any user's feedback to get it better, as soon as my health goes better.

Thanks and best regards.

Hallo

Die URL als Datenbank-Name... Das stimmt doch wohl nicht, oder  :?:
Normalerweise lautet doch der DB-Name so: usr_webx_x  (das x ist eine zahl)

@Nicky hat recht.

:roll:
