Including MS-Publisher pages, MS-Word pages as an image
« on: February 03, 2009, 12:12:13 PM »
I am a newbe with 4images. I would like to use for some information of my visitors nice designed pages with included little photos made with MS Word or MS Publisher.
When I install the file extensions for doc and pub the relevant programs must open to show the content. But first many visitors might not have the programs installed and this is very slow. So I would like to include those pages like an image on my site. When I change the pages in .jpg, the quality becomes very poor at a reasonable size of the file.
Which type of file would be recommended to solve the problem? It should be a type, fairly all computers could handle to present. .pdf would work in size but with its borders it looks not good. And I can not install it without the typical pdf borders.
I checked across the forum but could not find a helpful topic.
Many thanks for your help.
I use version 1.7.6

Hello and welcome to 4images forum.

If your documents don't contain any graphics (or not very complex graphics), then I'd recommend try .png format, it is lossless format (same as .bmp), but gz (zip) compressed. It is great for small images and text screenshots.

Thank you very much for this fast advise.
I will try it later today to see how it works. I have now also tried .gif.
This seems to be also not bad.

I am very happy now. This forum works really fine also for non-experts.
.png is better in quality and even smaller in file-size.
But I have still one more question.
In the  media.html template I have put sizes for width and height according to the relations of a standard text page.
But when I now have a table in landscape format, the heights of this table is zoomed to the full size.
Is it possible to put to the height a "maximum" command to stay with the original format of the file.
I have nowhere seen so far any advise on this, whether it is possible or not.
Maybe someone has the solution for this little problem.
Maybe one solution would be not to include a number for the heights.

To make it easy and simple is sometimes wonderful. Without a number for the height it works perfect.
Thank you to all again.
