[Req] mod to set default user level to new member

hello

I not sure if someone has already included this as a mod, but what I am looking for is the ability to give new members the status (user level) on the gallery automatically, so that I dont have to go to the admin panel and set it for each new member. If this mod exists could someone please give me a reference to it.

if so, then what is the point have a group where each member is?

4images has only two user levels: activated and not activated.
Not activated users are equal to Guests though.

My Apology I meant "User groups"  I have 3 user group catagories  surfer,member,webmaster I would like to be able to have all new members assigned to the surfer user group by default, if that is possible.

well, its just doesnt make any sence to me...
if everyone is asigned to a group, that means that the group is eaqual as "nothing", meaning if u set a category permissions to "Members only" instead of "private", then u dont need create any "special" group for all your members to have access to it...see my point? Unless there is something else I missed...
