do users have to create their own thumbnails in order for them to appear?

I uploaded a test image and I have chmod the files and folders correctly.

the image now appears without any problems, but the thumbnail is simply a small image of a grey box with an eye in it and jpeg written on it.

if users upload their image, and use the same image (without any size modifications) for the thumbnail field, will this image be resized to make the thumbnail and eliminate that grey eye thumbnail?

or do users have to create their own thumbnails in order for the program to display a smaller image of the picture as the thumbnail and not that grey eye?

If you upload images through the control panel, you have to use the Auto-Thumbnailer to create thumbnails.

For users who upload images through the upload from in the gallery, you can enable "Auto-create thumbnail" in your settings.

2. FAQ
3. Search

I'm having problems with creating thumbnails. I works fine from the control-panel, but not from the upload form.
I have tried using both ImageMagick an GDlib. - The image just doesn't resize.
What could be problem, thanks?
(I do have set auto-create thumbnails to YES )

/John

I have just checked that - no, Safe Mode is OFF - do you think that's the problem?
