where is index.html (main) ?

Hey i wanna edit the main page, put some links baner or something like that, i was download index.html useing wget host.to/~me/4images/

i was edit it, and now i dont know where should i put this file ? can u help me please  i cant find  

or shuld i edit other file like index.php   ??

just how to change main page
