Upgrading From V 1.7.3 to the latest 1.7.6
« on: March 04, 2008, 11:37:52 PM »
I feel have read every relevant post before finally making this request. I would (naturally) like to run the latest version of 4 images. however I really do need advice in SIMPLE terms if at all possible, is there a step by step guide I can follow in order for me to do this. With all due respect a list of all the code changes etc means nothing to me as I would not know how to use these.  I do manage to upload the phbb forum on my website (www.fairlineholidayclub.co.uk) without issues on a regular basis as there are step by step instructions that allows my very basic knowledge to follow.  I appreciate you guys know this software inside out but if you could please give me an "idiots guide to upgrading" I would be extreemly grateful. I am currently running version 1.7.3 and I have downloaded version 1.7.6 and saved it on my desktop. I can back up all the files ok if this helps. If there is a post that covers this then please accept my appologies, as I say I have called myself to have looked before posting.

The direct link to the pictures page of my website that uses 4 images is www.fairlineholidayclub.co.uk/pics if this helps?

Kindest regards

Gary

hi Gary,

okay here the simple way BUT remember all changes on php files will be lost (if you did someones):

unpack 4images1.7.6.zip
there will be the folder 4images
from folder 4images:
upload folders (except mentioned below) and files(except mentioned below) and replace them on your server

do NOT upload this folders
Quote
data
docs

and DO NOT upload this files
Quote
config.new.php
install.php
Readme.txt
update_1.0_to_1.5.php
update_1.5_to_1.6.php
update_1.6.1_to_1.7.php
update_RC-1_to_RC-2.php

you are ready for 1.7.6..

that's all
cheers
Nicky

hi matab,

yes you are finished with replacing all files. there is nothing more to do..
BUT remember.... all added mods and changes in your php files and templates will be lost...

but you will be UP2DATE  8)

description of OLD update php files (DO NOT UPLOAD and EXECUTE THEM if you have version 1.7 or newer!):
Quote
update_1.0_to_1.5.php
this file is for execute to be up2date for 1.5 if you are running 4images 1.0

Quote
update_1.5_to_1.6.php
this file is for execute to be up2date for 1.6 if you are running 4images 1.5

Quote
update_1.6.1_to_1.7.php
this file is for execute to be up2date for 1.7 if you are running 4images 1.6.1

and so on...
since 4images version 1.7 there are no update scripts, only files replacements.

hope this is clear now
cheers
Nicky

Many thanks for this Nicky.

Your help is very much appreciated....However I now cannot access the pictures page of my website at all?.......unless I go in through the "cache" option in Google...

The error code for www.fairlineholidayclub.co.uk/pics is as follows;

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'admin_global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /homepages/42/d69561123/htdocs/fairlineholidayboatownersclub/pics/index.php on line 27

Sorry to be a pain but have you any ideas on how I can correct this?  if there is anyone who can help then I am of course prepared to cover any costs.

Best Regards

Gary
