Too much resources
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:50:09 PM »
Hello,

got this mail from my hosting compagnie :

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,

Your account is utilizing excessive resources, causing a significant
degradation of services on the server. This is a shared environment and we
can not allow one user to utilize the majority of the resources on a server as
it affects all users adversely.  Because of this, you have been temporarily
moved to the Arneb server.  A detail of the problem is shown below:

11-14-05
schoolplaten . com 14.41 11.09 0.8
Top Process %CPU 67.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 63.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 60.0 /usr/bin/php

11-13-05
5.08 5.78 0.2
Top Process %CPU 60.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 58.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 48.0 /usr/bin/php

11-12-05
2.87 4.00 0.2
Top Process %CPU 64.0 [php ]
Top Process %CPU 54.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 45.0 /usr/bin/php

11-11-05
3.28 4.69 0.2
Top Process %CPU 52.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 43.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 42.0 /usr/bin/php

11-10-05
3.78 4.08 0.2
Top Process %CPU 54.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 50.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 47.0 /usr/bin/php

The numbers next to your domain represent average CPU usage, memory usage, and
SQL time. Your account type is limited to no greater than 1% each, and no
greater than 20% top processes.

We moved you to Arneb first to solve the issue of the degraded service on
Adhara and second as a courtesy in order to prevent any downtime on your site
to allow you time to rectify the situation.  Currently, your site is not
suitable for a shared hosting environment.

Arneb is not a production server and is not guaranteed to run in the same
manner as your old server nor will it support all functions you may have.
This is a transitional server only and is not intended to be a permanent
placement.  Please make a decision on how you would like to proceed within
seven (7) days.  After seven (7) days, your account will be suspended if no
other arrangements are made.

You have the following options:

. You may upgrade your package to our Dedicated hosting plan.
. [if applicable]You may take steps to correct the problem.  This must be done
before the seven (7) days are up.  You will need to let the technician know
the steps you took to correct the issue and get approval before being returned
to a production server.
. You may look for a dedicated server or other hosting solution.  Please
remember that propagation takes up to seventy two (72) hours so if you decide
on changing hosts you should allow enough time for propagation.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  We value you as a customer and
want to work with you toward a solution that is mutually beneficial.  Please
let us know as quickly as possible how you would like to proceed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So i have to move to a dedicated server.... ?

or.....

i work with 1.7.
Would switching to 1.7.1 solve this problem ?

ok i think it can be a mysql problem...
the 1.7 seems to have a Problem to close the mysql connections...
try a update to 1.71...
if that does not help change to a root server or try a other Hoster...  :(

an update would be best i think, because a dedicated server means $$$$...

problem with an update are my mods (25) installed...
updating to 1.7.1 means rebuilding the site from "zero" and install all mods again ? :?

or can i solve the problem with the closing of the mysql connectons in another way ?

mmmm...there is not changes in mysql module between two versions, even database structure is not changed to affect the database perfomance.

Thou the database issue is indeed possible, (I also having problem with database right now, but that's because I've installed too many other things in the same database).

Also another issue could be the templates, as bigger template code is as slower the compilation process, so try to make the template as simple as possible, with less code. v1.7.1 has faster template engine, but has some issues with other mods, such the ones that required template tags inside language files. If you can live whithout being able use template tags in the language files, then you can try use template.php from v1.7.1, it should speedup PHP process on about 50%.
Another trick I've been trying out lately is completely remove all the template tags from the templates (and tags support in template engine) and use php code instead, that also speed up the compilation process almost on half compare to v1.7.1, but since I couldnt find a sollution to do something about tags in language files, I can not use it myself...

This is how the situation was yesterday :
---------------------------
3.78   4.08   0.2
Top Process %CPU 54.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 50.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 47.0 /usr/bin/php

The numbers on top represent average CPU usage, memory usage, and
SQL time. Your account type is limited to no greater than 1% each, and no
greater than 20% top processes.
------------------------------

I installed the cache-mod and the templates engine from 1.7.1

This are the results from today

------------------------------
8.69 4.72 0.7
Top Process %CPU 41.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 37.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 34.0 /usr/bin/php

That's average CPU usage of 8.69%
Average Memory usage of 4.72%

--------------------------------

( it was very busy on the site :) )

i think i will have to move to a dedicated server

As I said above, template also affects the perfomance
