NetPBM Error/Autothumbnailing Problem
« on: August 04, 2002, 01:58:58 AM »
Hello everyone,

First let me tell you how much I love 4Images. It's absolutey amazing!! I'd like to say thank you to everybody involved in making it such an amazing script.  :D

I was able to get everything working without any problems. I just have one problem with NetPBM/Autothumbnailing.

When I go to my Control Panel or click on "Auto-Thumbnailer" or "Auto-Image-Resizer", I get this error:
NetPBM error. Wrong path or NetPBM not installed.
Check module settings.

When somebody adds an image, their image isn't autothumbnailed - the images end up using the default JPG or GIF image.

I have all of NetPBM files in /web/data/thumbs folder and I have Autothumbailing turned on.

A friend and I are working on this problem (she says that netPBM needs to be compiled or something), but I'd just like to know if you guys have any other suggestions on what we could do to fix this issue. :)

Thank you very much - keep up the great work!

Yes, NetPBM nedds to be compiled and you must have root access to your server, sorry.

Did you checked if GD is installed on the server? Most hosts have installed this module.

I'm working with the owner of the server, so we're trying to figure it out. :)

We checked and GD wasn't installed on the server - we tried it two days ago, but we wanted GIFs to be autothumbailed too, so now we're trying out NetPBM.

Thanks for your help - I'll keep you updated on how everything turns out. :)

My friend got it compiled, but we're still getting this error:
NetPBM error. Wrong path or NetPBM not installed.
Check module settings.

Any ideas? Thanks! :)

Did you entered the (right) path in your settings screen?

The script checks if the file "pnmscale" in the NetPBM directory is executable. Maybe this will help.

I don't see that file - however, I do see pbmpscale, pbmpscale.o, and pbmpscale.c in the editors directory in the NetPBM category. Should I check if those are executeable?

The first one was already executable - I made one of the other ones executable (the third one wouldn't allow me to make it executable), and I checked to see if I would still get the error - I did. :(

Sorry, i'm not very familiar with these server things. There a no bug reports since today relating NetPBM. I only know the precompiled packages somebody had posted the link here in the forum.

Maybe you should try this...

I started messing with it and now it's working! :D That error is gone!

Now I'm just getting an "Error creating thumbnail!" error when going to create thumbnails in the control panel. Any ideas on how to fix this one? Thanks!

I'm glad I'm not alone.  :P

I tried creating a bunch of thumbnail categories with different names in different places to see if that would work (I thought that the problem might just be that the thumbnails don't have a place to be saved to), but none of it worked.

Any ideas? :) Thanks again for all your help, everybody!
