To update or not to update?
« on: July 20, 2005, 12:38:05 PM »
I am running version 1.7, have installed a couple of mods and changed a few things here and there. I am very happy with 4images as it is right now and I plan to never update to a newer version because it would take me ages to track down all those changes I've made and incorporate them into the new version.

So I am now wondering about the long-term drawbacks of this plan. Is there any reason why I absolutely should update to a newer version?

Thanks.

1.7.1 was just a bugifx version with the cache system as only new feature. If you have no problems with your gallery, there is no need to update. Only the security fix should be applied: http://www.4homepages.de/forum/index.php?topic=8288
Your first three "must do" before you ask a question:
1. Forum rules
2. FAQ
3. Search

I have the same question from 1.7 to 1.7.4.
I have a lot of mods and I mean A LOT. I could probably go to mod-less installation, but everything will be clear, no mods, no edits to the template, etc.. and I don't want that.

Any suggestions!? :(

Actually all I need is CAPTCHA for registration and for comments posting. Otherwise it is running fine.

Nobody?
Is there any easy way to update without losing all the mods?
Or can I simply add CAPTCHA to 1.7 ?

Thank You.

To use CAPTCHA you have to edit the template you are using so it works.
I don't know of any way you can just add this with out updating to at least 1.7.3

Yes, not really easy but you can make a Diff with winmerge or windiff...

Then add the new code to your 1.7...

Good speed! (o:

You mean after comparison, right?
I think that will be a long, and I mean VERY LONG time.

Lately, I have been getting a lot of spams on the site. Most of them are bot spams to sites, and I believe they automatically activate on the e-mail.

:(
I just moved my 4images to xaamp, and now it doesn't work, I think I may have messed up while moving databases. I wanted to try to upgrade completely to see how it will be.
Anyway, this is the last update i have.
