When you upload a image in the acp you must use the auto thumbnailer...

When you have Problems with the Thumbs when you upload a image in the Frontend, you must set the setting "Auto-create thumbnail" on yes...

when you give the user the right to edit the images its works, if the don´t have the permissions to edit there images the link will not work.

then you must find a way to check the user_id...
