"xx images in xx categories" counts wrong

I already searched on this one, but couldn't find anything close:

The counter on my mainpage displays not only the "real" images, he counts the THUMBS also.
So when I have 50 "real" images uploaded (plus 50 thumbs), he says "100 images in 23 categories".

Where can that be changed please? So he counts only the "real" images, not the thumbs too.

The default "counter" does not count the files, it count number of entries in the database, so unless you altered the code this should not be happening.
