want to password protect gallery

I'm sorry if I'm not posting in the right spot, but I have seen 4image galleries that show just the log-in and password when you visit the Gallery.

I tried to password protect every category, but when people visited the site they saw a message that said there was no images in the Gallery. How do I password protect the whole gallery?

I searched, but nothing came up. I hope someone can help.

Just put a big note on your home page (home.html template), that you must be registered member in order to see the photos...

I want to give someone just a password to access into a certain category. Similar to Gallery 2.
Is that possible? I don't want them to go through the trouble of registering or logging in. Can we just protect a certain directory with a password.

I know I can just tell them to login using a certain user and password but people generally have hard time remembering both.
