Another way of showing new images in the home page

Hello,

I was wondering if it's possible to show an x number of new images of specific categories in the home page like this:
- x number of new images from specific cat's (number of images and cat's should be choosen/adaptable).
- the first (= newest) image should be shown as imagename, imagethumbnail and short imagedescription.
- the rest (of the x number of) images from that same cat should be only shown as imagenames.

See an example in http://www.nu.nl.

I searched the forum and know that there is a MOD to show an x number (5) new images on the homepage. But this existing MOD shows all the (5) images the same way. And I know there is a way (MOD) how you can add/show a new field with for example short description/info. But can you combine these MOD's with the mentioned option (above, like in www.nu.nl)?

For some php-writers on this forum I know it's easy to be done.

Anyone interested?

It would be a great way to give your homepage more variety.
The newest added image changes constantly with it's short description wich gives the readers something new each time.
