NetPBM installation configuration
« on: October 10, 2002, 06:18:18 PM »
OK...

I am having a problem with NetPBM...

At first I had NetPBM installed with just a series of like 8 files and that was it... I got that on the gallery web site. But when I created thumbnails they were made with a size of 0. I can not figure this out. So I figured I must have NetPBM installed incorrectly.

I went to NetPBM's sourceforge web site and downloaded their latest package and it consists of MANY MANY MANY files? What do I do? And the installation it comes with isn't even very helpful it jsut says run this command etc. And I take it their talking about telnet? I dunno..

Can someone help me with the installation of NetPBM by listing what it should look like?

I got mine installed in /home/sites/sitexx/web/programs/netpbm

Whats going on? Anyone? PLease!!

Or you could just download the NetPBM binary micro distribution which is released by the gallery-guys.

How-to install:
1. Download from: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7130
2. Untar the files in your server.

That's it  :)

What do you mean, "untar the files in your server?"

Do you mean just untar and unzip the package and just upload the files?

OK i now have netpbm installed in:

/home/sites/siteXXX/web/programs/netpbm/

It consists of these files which I got from the gallery.sourceforge.com site.

giftopnm
jpegtopnm
pngtopnm
pnmcut
pnmfile
pnmflip
pnmrotate
pnmscale
pnmtopng
ppmquant
ppmtogif
ppmtojpeg

HERE IS MY PROBLEM :
When I do the auto-thumbnailer I get this:

Create thumbnail for: name  (name.jpg) ....
   Thumbnail created!

Now when I look at my  gallery the thumnail is a broken image and it has a size of 0 :( :( :(

Can anyone tell me what to do?

PLEASE>....

Try to chmod the NetPBM files with 755.

And it might be some server problem. It worked on my old server, but when I moved the site it canīt use netPBM correctly.

Well my hosting provider uses Gallery on another one of his sites on the same host with NetPBM and he said it works fine. Why is it not working for me?!?!

:(

He told me I need to upload the files BINARY which I didn't. Now I redid them in Binary but its still not working. :(

Well I figured out what the problem was! I had downloaded the wrong .gz package for my server! So those who are getting thumbnails with a file size of 0 you probably have the wrong package for your server. Out of natural instinct I downloaded the first .gz package but I need the redhat linux one. Now everything works fine... thanks for a great program!
