Various (new_images} on main page

I have some categories in my gallery, Cat1 = People, cat2 = Auto, cat3 = Dogs

How can I do {new_images_1} from category 1, {new_images_2} from category 2, {new_images_3} from category 3 etc. on main page?

Need modify index.php where new images code.

I have the same question, and for a 4images and php dummy like myself the above response is not an answer. Please clarify.  Thank you
