Resize without losing IPTC data
« on: June 04, 2003, 07:40:05 PM »
First off, let me say what a great package 4images seems to be. I've been looking at a couple, and was initially put off by the lack of documentation, but the forums and the package itself have convinced me to persevere.

Now, the first problem. I've followed the instructions for batch upload and made the suggested changes to get the IPTC data into the database. That works well (more or less). But if I then use the automatic image resizer I lose all the IPTC data from the image file. I'm using GD because I couldn't get either of the others to install (my fault).

Is there a solution that does not involve netPBM or Imagemagick? If not it doesn't matter as I can always resize in another programme without losing the data, but it would be nice to do it in 4images.

I have other questions, which I will post separately.

Thanks
Jeremy

You're better off resizing the images offline rather than try to use some server graphics package like GD, etc.  These packages generally do not support IPTC or EXIF data although NetPBM has an add-on library for EXIF.

Thanks for that. I'll just have to adjust my workflow this end.

cool, thx!
how about GD2 support? ;)

P.S. right now my 4images do backup of original images (if any resize or annotation needed), and IPTC info reads from that backup...
Your first three "must do" before you ask a question:
Please do not PM me asking for help unless you've been specifically asked to do so. Such PMs will be deleted without answer. (forum rule #6)
Extension for Firefox/Thunderbird: Master Password+    Back/Forward History Tweaks (restartless)    Cookies Manager+    Fit Images (restartless for Thunderbird)
