Text for category id ("cat_id") FOLDER instead of numbers?

I need to dump/update images (using FTP software like Filezilla) into many categories so it would be easier if cat_id folder WAS NOT:

www.mysite.com/data/media/4
www.mysite.com/data/media/5

but WAS:

www.mysite.com/data/media/videogames
www.mysite.com/data/media/films

Also, I would rather not change .htaccess file (e.g., as required in [MOD] Google Friendly Urls For 4images Best Seo Mod) but if it is absolutely necessary that would still be great. ;)
