trouble with permissions. help !!!!!

I have the following error whenever i try to upload a picture:

it seems that you don't have write-permission on this directory (/data/../..)

set permissions to your data directory to 777 (UNIX: chmod -R 777 data) or change these attributes with your ftp-client.
