Just want to say a huge Thank You to Rembrandt for trying to fix this issue.  He thought it might be related to the member.php file.

Unfortunately, when I replaced my heavily modified member.php file with a generic member.php that I had from downloading the 1.7.7 install, there was no change ... still the file upload error message.

So  I think we can eliminate that file as the cause ...

hmmm, this is such a mystery!!! and I am going crazy ... since our website is active and no one can upload images from the user end!!! :((

[edit]

okay, here is another update: I just discovered if I add a new sub category, as a user or from the acp, then I CAN upload the images to that new category.  It seems I cannot upload images to the OLD categories (created from the shared hosting environment), as a front end user ... ??????????

[edit2]

okay, this is so weird!  with the problems I encountered, I decided to try out many of the features we have on here ... like download, and send an epostcard... and create a subcategory as a user...

once I created a subcategory as a user, that seemed to do the trick. now I can upload in both new and existing categories just fine. I have NO idea why doing what I did somehow changed this but ... I do know that when you create a subcategory, it creates a new entry in the db ... and maybe that was what was needed to configure it finally to the new server?  realize that logic is so flawed that coders on here will be laughing and sputtering coffee out of their mouths when they read this ...

I hope my record of troubleshooting might help someone else out ...

Hi -

I apologize for not indicating what version I am using.  It is v1.7.7

In this topic, Vano helped me tweak the rss.php file so that I could display separate rss feeds for each category and all subcategories underneath.

However, after I moved all of our files to the new vps server, now the rss feeds do not work.  It is strange, if you click on the rss button, it does take you to what we all think is a usual rss feed page, with the images displayed and the descriptions ... so at first glance it works but if you use the feed in a widget, the feed is determined to be a web page and not a real rss feed.

Happy to PM you examples or let you see on our site if you like. I just can't post our site's link here on the forum.

Thanks,

Brian

Issue resolved

Turns out it was an .htaccess rule that did not carry over from the old server. Thanks to any and all who tried to assist.

Arrrggghhh!  Vano... you had totally done it. For over 2 years, this rss tweak you created worked perfectly.

But now that I have changed servers, the rss feeds don't work anymore!!!

Do I need to change something in the rss.php file?

Thanks for any ideas.

Hi -

thank you so much for trying to help!

Attached is a print screen of what I hope is the temp table that you are talking about in our db.

Brian

[edit]

I am almost sure there is a problem with the root_path.  To me, that is why the images are not uploading with the simple error of just error uploading image file and now, I have discovered that all the RSS feeds that vano helped me configure through rss.php do not work.

It has got to be related to a path to the old server that now no longer exists.

I have looked in the config file to update the path and in the global.php file ... I can't find anywhere to update the path.

I will bet good money on this.  Will bet with dollars or Euros.!!!

Thanks,

Brian

the error is as a user.

all the permissions are correct for the directories and the files in the directories. I just checked them now, once again.

tried to upload an image as a user - same message: Error uploading image file:

21
I have uploaded files directly into a category media file using our ftp service but that is no different than uploading any file to our server.

Where are you talking about the FTP correct directory and file rights? Is that in the ACP settings? I don't see it.
By file rights, I assume you mean file permission?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi -

Thanks for the reply.

If I go to a category, and I click on the 'upload' button or the 'multiupload' button (I feature both so my users feel at ease), and then use the browse button to select an image, leave the image name blank, add a description and add keywords, and then click submit, I get this message below the label 'Control Panel'

Error uploading image file:

Right now I have GDLibrary selected for autothumbnailer.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi

Been a while since I posted on here. Our 4images installation has been working like a charm until now.

We just moved from a shared hosting environment to a VPS.  The scope of support from the host is limited. We are expected to use shell commands on our own.

All of the db's, user names, and passwords, were recreated on the VPS with identical everything.  The VPS is a linux environment, running php 5.3.5  Our installation is v1.7.7

Is there a file I need to modify to set a new path for uploading images or an ftp setting? I can upload images via direct FTP to the media categories but I am unable to upload a single image from the front end.

Thanks for any ideas you might have.  Our community is very active now and we are desperate to get our 4images installation up and running again.  We would be happy to pay for someone's time to assist and troubleshoot.

Cheers,

Brian

Mods & Plugins (Releases & Support) / Re: [MOD] Shoutbox
« on: January 07, 2011, 03:38:25 AM »
Hi -

Okay, that was a lot of hours spent uninstalling the other Shoutbox/Guestbook MOD and then installing this MOD ... and doing my diligence by slowly going through all 17 pages of posts.

Thank all of you for your efforts to support the MOD and help everyone.  At the end of the day, I don't really see the usefulness of this MOD.  The other MOD was more like an instant message personal communication MOD while this MOD is much more like a guestbook where everyone leaves their shouts.  I guess it could be useful if people had errors to report or suggestions or issues but I'm not sure how useful it is unless it was just pasted in the home.html code and there are too many other MODS competing for space there.

What would be great is if the MOD allowed people to make separate comments about each category ... so you could make comments about category A and then a comment about Category B and those comments would only be visible in their respective Category displays.  As it is, the comments are visible on every category page, if you posted the template code on the categories.html page.  Likewise, if you posted the template code on the member.html page, you would see everyone's shouts no matter what or who they applied to so that doesn't seem to useful.

With some of the lingering issues of the search box error messages, it seems like this MOD is just way too complicated and sensitive to be very valuable, in my opinion.

So I undid it all.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts on why they like this MOD or how they find it useful.

We have a separate forum on our website so it seems logical for people to post their questions and concerns in our gallery forum instead of this guestbook format.  And ... with the format, it is hard to respond if someone posts a 'shout' so to speak.

Thanks again for everyone's dedication to helping each other here and throughout the 4images forum.

Hi -

Thanks for the suggestions and your efforts to help.  I am going to switch to this MOD because it works and and has support from nice folks like you.

I know how to delete all the template files and remove the code from the files I modified but what about the db table that was created with the other MOD. Should I try to delete those fields or just let them sit there?

Thanks again,

Brian

Hi Rembrandt,

Thanks for posting the fix.  I looked for the file and could not find it. I then when back and had a look at the MOD and discovered that I had posted in the correct place, for the other Shoutbox MOD:

http://www.4homepages.de/forum/index.php?topic=22492.0

Do you recommend I remove that MOD and install this one, or just try to replace all the instances of 'POST' with 'GET' in the code modifications?

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Brian

Hi -

I posted this on 23 December in the wrong Shoutbox MOD!  :oops:

I wanted to document that I also had the same problem, and it is ongoing. I had a look at Rembrandt's profile of modifications that Sumale.nin quotes but I  can't find anything.  Right now the Shoutbox does not work at all on my version v1.7.7

Looks like we have an incompatibility issue with the security fix for XSS and CSRF vulnerability patches.

Using v1.7.7

implemented the security fixes for XSS and CSRF almost 2 months or more back? just after it came back.

just tried to use the shoutbox for a user and got this:

Error

CSRF check failed.

Any ideas ?

Thanks so much for looking at this.

Brian.

Hi -

Thanks for the tips on here. Rembrandt's advice to change the cell spacing and cell padding in the ACP image settings was a big help.

I stumbled on this 4images gallery and immediately wanted to emulate the tile format of the thumbnails:
http://hunkforo.com/4images/cat-men-in-boxers-9.htm

I am close to getting where I want, or closer given the limits of my graphic design talents but ....

how do I center the image and the information below like the hunkforo gallery?  I tried modifying my thumbnail_bit.html template by adding a align=center code around the {thumb} as suggested in one other post in this section but that didn't do anything.  Is this a css issue or is my code in the thumbnail_bit template woefully inadequate?

Here is the code for the template:
Quote
<!-- you wish detail page in a small javascript open window, use {thumbnail_openwindow} -->

<table width="1%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" onmouseover="Tip('<?=str_replace(array("\n", "\r"), "", addslashes("{image_tip}<br />{lang_imagename} {image_name}<br />{lang_category} {cat_name}<br />{lang_description} {image_description}<br />{lang_comments} {image_comments}"))?>')" onmouseout="UnTip()">
  <tr>
    <td>{thumbnail}</td>
  </tr>
</table>

<b><?PHP echo substr(format_text($image_name,2),0,20);?></b> {if image_is_new}{lang_new}{endif image_is_new} ({user_name_link})

<br />

<a href="{cat_url}">{cat_name}</a><br />

{if allow_comments}{lang_comments} {image_comments}{endif allow_comments}<br />

<img src="{template_url}/images/{rating_pic}" width="55" height="10" alt="{lang_rating} {image_rating} ({image_votes} {lang_votes})" /><br />

{lightbox_button}

Thanks for any ideas and I can pm anyone with a test user access to our gallery if they want to take a look. Just can't post it on here.

Thanks,

Brian

Found the solution ... at last ... see this topic. Thanks~!

« on: December 09, 2010, 02:44:09 AM »
Hi budduke,

Thanks for taking a look at this issue.  The reason I need this is that our members will be uploading images, from their own computers as well as with remote url's and if the images don't resize, our gallery default templates jump outwards to extreme width, and I am striving to keep the templates at just one width.

I was successful in uploading the remote url I listed in my post using the standard upload button and having it resize to my settings: 818 x 1024. I have the two upload buttons next to each other right now, which of course display for all categories, user and regular:
{upload_button} and the {user_multiupload_button}

Thanks again,

Brian
