Curious.  in around 2002 I was able to find dozens of templates on line, when I first began using 4images.

Now it's harder.  Found far fewer, and more sites want $ for templates.

4image template sites
http://www.justwebtemplates.com/links.php?ax=list&sub=21&cat_id=21

http://tarporley.com/4images/ - appears to be down???

http://www.vierstra.com/4images.htm - has a fair number.  For Free.

http://www.phpcafe.net/blog/2007/08/10/download-4images-templates-and-themes-request-here/ - email arindra...

Finding lots of dead links...

Iceberg: http://www.osdesigner.net/category/4images-templates/

http://free-cmstemplates.com/?cat=7 - A handful - eight.

http://4images.malediven-bilder.de/index.php?l=English - Biggest selection!

Hmm.  It looks like competing galleries and flash are gaining ground/user buy-in on 4Images.   Tho' from a quick perusal, few if any offer the feature set.   Some even brag about their simplicity - as tho fewer features is a good thing! zenphoto...

Discussion & Troubleshooting / Re: Download Zip Files
« on: July 20, 2005, 08:35:58 PM »
I upload a zip package and it goes in fine through FTP...I direct link it in my board and when I download it, I get an error telling me it is not a valid archive, but If I do it through ftp I can open it fine....

Can anybody tell me what the problem is?

Not with that amount of information.  Presumably the file is being corrupted on the http download as you state that  'through FTP I can open it fine...'  Some guesses tho:

Questions:
Does this happen with all files or just this file?  (maybe a strange filename is causing the http protocol to fail, while the ftp protocol succeeds)

Have you tried this with another site?  (you could for example create a geocities.com test site)

Installation, Update & Configuration / Re: mpg thumbnail help
« on: July 06, 2005, 11:15:14 PM »
hey everyone, i got everything working and stuff, but does anyone know how to make it that when someone who uploads a mpg file, that it will give u a thumbnail of it, instead of the movie reel image to replace it?  please help? thank you =)

I'm relatively new myself, so I'm not positive my info is correct the best.   I've not seen nor heard of an 'automatic' way to generate a thumbnail for the movie clips.

My site doesn't have too many, so I do em when the need arises, pretty low-tech by hand:
1. take a screen shot of the movie clip at an interesting point.
2. crop the shot in pbrush
3. resize using irfvanview (i_view32.exe) [www.irfanview.com]
4. save as the same name as the movie, with the type and extension of: .jpg

Then I upload 'em and specify the thumbnail.

I've heard of folks using fraps [http://fraps.com/] to capture frames from movie clips.  It didn't work for me tho.

My german is somewhat rusty, but I think the gist of it was:
Mod ist soweit drin, - The Mod (Pic o Day/Month)
aber - but what option is used to determine the winnner (hits, date, user views) if no-one votes?  or must some-one
cast a vote [or is it: must the site admin manually select one]

I want convert  Coppermine Photo Gallery to 4homepages board.
Please tell me how I can to do it?

1. Install 4image
2. create categories using the control-panel
3. Copy the pictures into the folders that correspond to the categories.
(can be determined by 'hovering' the mouse pointer over the category listing in the category creation window)

- Ask questions as you go along to drill into the processes in more detail.

I suspect you're hoping for an automated tool to convert coppermine->4homepages.  AFAIK there is no such animal.
- as that would require the makers of 4homepages to reverse engineer coppermine.  I suspect they have better uses for their time.

Good Luck.
Frank.

I suspect that would be more a function of your ISV, rather than 4image.  Accessing your site, things seemed to work ok.

some one hacked to my site. and chaged pictures, what should I do? to my 4images page
1.  Restore from most recent backup.
   - Well that's the theory anyhow.

2. Change all administrative passwords and any other passwords connected to the hacked machine.

3. Make sure your os and site have the latest patches applied.
  - 4Image has had a security notice up for weeks now,  hopefully you've applied that fix.

4. Again, depending on your os. do some safe computing work:
  - scan for viruses.  Use GriSoft if you're cheap like me.
  - scan for malware.  Use spybot and/or adaware
  - check your web logs - see if you can figure out who was hacking your site.
(look for repeated login tries by the same or similar IP's)

Good luck!

Thanks Frank. Please steal it. I am hoping that there will be additions from various people.

I have.  In my previous message I attached an html Help File with my additions - expanded the feature list matrix,
added a column to indicate whether the feature is available, - obviously much of these settings will need to be
revised to meet the intent of the site administrator.   I added a link to the anchors for each feature.

I haven't yet added a slide show to my site.  I've got a couple of cosmetic issues I'd like to add before I take that on.
(mainly getting the 'next' and 'previous' image options to display *correctly* and *work* above the image.   My first edit of details.html didn't work properly.   - The links appeared correctly, the display took too much vertical screen space, and the links didn't work.    I've undone it and intend to retry.   I suspect my using a gui html editor was the problem.   I'll try editing the raw html (and yes, thankfully I'd made a backup of the file before I started, so recovering was a non-issue)

For the slide show, I put in some JavaScript to maximize the image size after it dynamically determines the display size. I've added some code to the details.php file to adjust image sizes so they'll always show on a 1024x768 screen (I will make it as dynamic as the slide show code when I get a chance.)

The slide show on your site is working, (mostly)  - Though I get the following cosmetic error message:
=====
Warning: Division by zero in /home/essenti/public_html/gallery/includes/image_utils.php on line 135

Warning: Division by zero in /home/essenti/public_html/gallery/includes/image_utils.php on line 141
=====
FWIW, the resizing is working. - I switched to 800x600, and tried 1600x1280.  (from my default 1152)

Images appeared nicely sized regardless.   You wouldn't by chance be willing to post information on how you achieved that?  - (Probably in another thread as this one is titled 'end user help'.)

Now if I could only figure out how to get the 2 .rm (real audio video clips) to play (and maybe even display a thumbnail), I'd declare my site operational...

Good luck, sorry I don't have any sage advice to offer in that area, but I've no experience with that.

Hi fpatton,
Thanks for the comments. Adding some images sounds like a good idea.
I'll modify the help file. Thanks very much for the comments. As for the lightbox, I've disabled downloads for the moment, so that doesn't seem to be a thing to mention. However, I did add the slide show capability to it (I modified Daniel Janesch's mod to do that--which is triggering the resize problem). One of the things I'm still trying to figure out is what all of the available functions are--to both registered and non-registered users (and to me).
David
I've taken the liberty of stealing your help, and modifying it a bit, I've listed functions by availability (which *is* very configurable) from the administrator console.  - It's flexible to the point that you can have different restrictions by category, and probably more.

I've attached a copy of the revised help file (Help03Generic.txt - was .html but can't upload .html)   If anyone sees any errors, I'd appreciate it.  In some places I'm making educated guesses about how 4Images works under the hood.   I'm attempting to anticipate questions and have answers at the ready.   Once it's deployed, I'll probably add an FAQ section to cover repeat questions.

David - Looks like a good start!  Some paragraph bodies which might be useful:
==================================
Send an eCard:

Found an image you want to share with your friends?  eCard is the ticket.   Instead of worrying about the complexities of downloading and attaching a file, eCard allows you to send a link to your friend.   Additionaly it allows you to select the background colors of the 'card' and of course, what card is complete without your own wit and wisdom?   A preview function is provided to give you the opportunity to verify the information and color scheme match your intent.

Lightbox:

The Lightbox is similar to paid sites shopping carts (like Amazon).   By 'checking' multiple images, perhaps in seperate categories, you can view them as a group in your 'Lightbox'.   As a registered user you have the option to download the selected images automatically packaged in a single zip file, and view the images as a group.

Downloading images:

As a registered user you may download any image using the 'download' link.  For faster downloading, use the Zip download button.  For even greater effeciency, when downloading more than one picture, consider using the 'Lightbox' button to allow you to group your selections and download them in a batch mode.
===
Other thoughts:
Indicate which functions are available via registration and not.
-------

SideNote:  The slideshow functionality on your site isn't working for me, I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: resize_image_none() in /home/essenti/public_html/gallery/includes/image_utils.php on line 181

I thought it *might* be my browser(firefox), so I switched to IE and retried.  Same error.

does this happening with default template too?
Fixed it!

No, it doesn't happen in the default template.  That works.  Inspired, I looked for postcard files in the 'default' directory, found one named: postcard_create.html, copied that one replacing the one in the corresponding 'envy' location, retried and voila!

It worked.

Thanks for the debugging pointer.  - Test with the default template to eliminate the template replacement as the issue.

I'm two issues away from going public with it now.  (Will do some homework before inquiring on them tho')

Thanks again.
Frank

I've installed 4images on my site recently, and am quite impressed with the range of features and functionality.  Unfortunatly not everything is working correctly tho.

eCard postcard functions is not working, and no error message is returned.
Step: - Login to site as a user
- pic a picture
- click the 'eCard' button
- browser switches to page: /postcards.php?image_id=67
and the page displayed has an empty pane where the photo should be displayed.
  No error message is shown.
=======
using version 1.7 with skin 'envy'

Suggestions?  Possible causes?
I'm afraid I'm a total novice on php so don't assume I know the 'obvious'.

Thanks,
Frank

FAQ: http://www.4homepages.de/forum/index.php?topic=3080.0

An Abstract:

      1.  Use "Add Categories" ...
      2.  Once created, go to "Edit Categories" and move your mouse over a specific category in the list into which you want to upload new images.  ...
      3.  Use FTP to upload your images to 4images/data/media/<number> ...
      4.  Go back to the admin control panel and click "Check New Images"....

Note:  I haven't tested this myself.  Going to tho, as I'm in a similar position (only got 1k pics tho)
