You clearly know how to make images do what you want.

Do you think my design is viable?

Any guidance re: who/what could get me moving forward on this project would be greatly appreciated, Bart...

You need some sort of html editor. Dreamweaver would do what you need and it’s easy to use for beginners.
Or someone could make a design/mod 4images. So it is like you want it

why would i need dreamweaver if 4Images can handle it? this is the type of thing I need explained to me.

what exactly does an "html editor" do....and isn't 4Images able to function on its own?

thanks again, bartafterdark

because you need to edit the template. So it looks like you want

If I get Dreamweaver how will it modify 4Images -- the rollover function?

Bart -- are there designers in this forum who take jobs like this, or offer tutorials to create the layout i've described to you? I didn't think I'd need additional software.  :?:

Check out this site, bart:

http://www.waytoblue.org/?action=current
the navigation is very cool, minimalistic....

this test you made is awesome...nice girls, too. If it had the following tweaks, it woud nearly be what I set out to create (did you use dreamweaver?)

COLOR:
Black background all pages

HOME PAGE:
Larger picture, with slim black border (like site link above, but not as large) and no scrolling required to see. Eliminate Random Photo

CATEGORY PAGE:
Eliminate 3 icons beneath main pic, leave only 9-thumb grid to left (3 pics x 3 pics)
rollover on grid thumbs puts that image in large viewer to right (no scrolling required)
Larger main picture
Click on large photo for fullscreen, same size as home page image (large w/slim black bkgrnd),
rating/caption beneath photos..but as minimalistic as possible

it would nearly be the design I'm talking about...

Are you able to tell me how to code this stuff in 4Images? have you ever done this for someone in the forum before? I see 4Images trademark so figured you used the default template.

It is 4images.

I'll see what I can do :) The only part I have problems with is to show the image when you mouseover the thumbnails

well thank you bart  :D

yes I dont know what you would call that--a viewer, or picture frame?

then I was going to add a click sound effect as you rollover each thumb and image changes in viewer.

Caption and Vote bar can appear under the frame viewer, and when you click for fullscreen they can disappear.

Three categories, Bart!

Home Page
Is basically one large Picture of the Day w/three small thumbs lined up underneath that link to each of the three Category Pages. These three pics will also be replaced daily. No scrolling required to view.

Three Category Pages
Each corresponds to one of the 3 thumbs on Home Page.
Each Category Page has a large image to right (the same pic you clicked on Home Page) and a grid of 9 rollover thumbs to the left. (With the one large big pic and 9-thumb grid, each Category Page offers 10 images). No scrolling required to view.

Submit Pic
Simple form, w boxes for users to supply caption, date, type of camera, wtvr they want to tell.

About
This will have some content about how site works and how often images rotate.

Best Pics
This will display the best pics in a series of thumbs based on visitor ratings. Like your version, bart, but with a list of thumbs instead of photo names in a list. It can have a rollover viewer to the right, like a Category Page, or a click for fullscreen, since they are the "best"  :D

bart can you afford to spend time on this for me?   :?: It's really helped.   :D

hey rasta is this something you wanted? http://www.bran.dk/testing/

I used some mods, so people can click on the image to see a bigger version in a new window.
Also added images from the category on every page [exept the frontpage] (as you can see)

I still haven't changed Best photos etc. Just wanted to know what you think :)

I checked it out--amazing, bart! I appreciate you spending time on this. It's nearly the way i envisioned it.

I don't want to nitpick the details, but here goes

--background pure black,

--larger Home Page picture, like : http://www.waytoblue.org/?action=current
but with a 1-inch black border. (If you scrolll down on that link,
you will see there is a black footer margin, I'd want it on four sides of pic).

--the three category thumbs can be pushed further down and spaced about 1 inch apart, and be visible w/o scroll

--list Best Pics as thumbs (instead of text links) with that week's date next to it (?)

--a 9-thumb grid on category pages (for compactness)

What else can I say?   :D

This looks great--and if you have any interest at all in getting it through the final phases and onto my website, it would be greatly appreciated.  :?: My friend was too busy to work on it, and it sat there for weeks. But I dont want you too spend too much tme unless its OK.

Once a website is ready, it is meta-tagged so people can find it online, right? Maybe I will have this thing up this summer as I hoped.

cool, a nice job!  8)

the thing you say about scrolling is rather hard. Because the scrolling depends on what resolution the user/viewer is using.
