Hi,

I'm wondering how I can add the initiating text within the input section of the new category. I would prefer for it to disappear after someone clicks on the section. Basically, I'm adding a field onto the upload form for people to post a link. I'm trying to figure out how to have "http://" show up in the input area for members to understand how the link must be added for others to properly click on it.

I have found it easier, and much faster to use a sitemap program rather than to wait for Google to create a sitemap of your site. Pretty much, you just sit back, while the program trolls through your site under your own permissions. Now, the one that I have used (I think it is the one below), allows you to set words/scripts NOT to crawl. Depending on exactly how many images you have and internet speed, it may take up to a couple of hours to properly scroll through your site.

The programs create exportable sitemap files that you are then able to upload to your root directory, and then point google to it. Personally, I know that I had Google index 9,000 pages thanks to one of the sitemap programs.

This is one, but not sure if this is the one I used. I don't think there are any restricted permissions for the trial, since I only used it during the trial...

BUT REMEMBER: Search through the features of sitemap programs allowing you to omit certain words like "admin, lightbox, edit, delete, etc"... which ever words or pages you do not want to be indexed. Also, keep in mind that doing so drastically cuts down on the time consumed when it scrolls your site. Finally, the more you restrict from the robot of these programs, the less amount of bandwidth it will obviously use up when scrolling.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the most important part... LOGOUT of your site (especially if under admin) when these programs are running. This will stop the program from scrolling admin or member actions that could be a security risk!

I have backed up, and modified the needed files from the 1.7.7 upgrade, but throwing some errors. First, I used the tutorial below to modify the files listed, and then also just uploaded the new "template/default" folder (since nothing in that original folder had been modified by mods. I used the topic below...

I may be changing it up within the next couple days, or restoring it back to its original state, so don't go by how it looks at the present time as changes may be reversed.)

The questions...

1.) I am upgrading from a heavily modified 1.7.6 version of the software, but ran into no problems when adding the changes within that 1.7.7 topic. However, I came to a stop at the "install.php" file. After I installed my version, I deleted the file. I didn't know if the changes to the new 1.7.7 version are dependent or not on that "install.php" file. Do I need it, or need to implicate it?

2.) With the newly created version of 1.7.7, are there any additions or changes to the database? Do I need to add or modify the DB tables?

3.) Has anyone yet found conflicting MOD's with the 1.7.7 version? The following MODs I have added to my site are below...

- Google Friendly Links
- Remove Right Click
- ReCaptcha Art
- Report a Picture
- Contact Form
- Avatars
- Added Google Adsense ads (didn't use any mod, just added them)

There is nothing in the script that could crash a well configured web server. You'll need dig up more information on what exactly causing it to crash.

That I understand, which leads me to believe it quite possibly be Mods conflicting, or code I possibly mangled when modifying. Before moving to the VPS, my former provider said that excessive CPU usage was the reason why they suspended my account (was on a shared server). They cited the "categories.php" file as being the excessive cache cow.

On the new server, I was told that there is an unstable script making Apache crash, which shows the "loading" thing within the browser when a guest/member tries to view the page. Then, it would say the server timed out. I was told to access my server via SSH to look at the error logs. I've been messing with it, but barely know how to use SSH to view error log files.

I've seen a couple of other threads regarding the sites crashing (specifically the Apache portion of the server), but was wondering if anyone ever found out what string of script was the possible culprit!

I've been having frequent problems since I've moved over to my new VPS server. Possibly from one of my mods, one or more of the scripts have become unstable causing Apache to crash, and makes my site timeout for the users. Sometimes, I won't have issues for a couple days, but then I'll have days where I need to restart that part of the server more times than I can count. It is really annoying.

Now, I still am running 1.7.6, and haven't added any of the bug fixes. I am planning to upgrade to 1.7.7 (probably manually to protect current mods), and hoping I can finally solve this problem with the unstable scripts. Below, is the list of mods I have added to my current script if possibly one of them is known to cause this problem. Has anyone had this problem as well?

- Avatars

Hey guys!

Yeah, I feel stupid for asking this one again. I believe I asked this before, and one of you guys helped me do this. For the life of me, I cannot find the thread or post I made about this....

Basically, I noticed that pictures from the hidden categories are still showing up as random images. Where can I find the block of code where I can deny viewing of the hidden categories in the Random Images by guests?

Yeah, my version of 4Images was automatically installed through my service provider, so I never had to change the permissions. I still feel stupid for not looking in there to begin with.

I just moved over an entire 4images site over to a new server, and forgot about the CHMOD permissions. I'm guessing they don't stay the same permission within the file when downloading, and uploading the files. Can anyone help me and post up the full list of changes I need to do and double check?

This should not be happening. Did you double check all the steps?
Any example where we can see this?

I backed up my database, and ran an older one before the Avatar add. Then re-ran the install for it. Now I am able to see the avatars ONLY when I am logged in under Admin, but not when logged in under a normal Member or as a Guest. I'm guessing there is a string I need to switch around in the modified scripts. I'll look through it all and see if I could find it myself. If anyone finds it before me, please post it up! Thanks!

Oh, and here is a direct link to my test site image page where the comments are at the bottom. If you guys see solid light-blue boxes under the user names, then I figured it out!

EDIT: Alright, I narrowed it down to being related to the database changes. When I grabbed the user database backup from my old site, and uploaded it, the Avatars didn't show at all. Then I reinstalled the install_avatars.php file (got the usual "double" message). Then, the avatars still just are able to be seen by the admin when in comments. Oddly, when looking at the member profiles, you can see the avatar whether guest, member, or admin. This is just weird.

Maybe this was already asked on the other 15 pages, but I'm wondering if anyone has added a drop down option within the Contact Form. I'm looking to add fields to further help the administrators of my site to narrow down the questions and comments provided by users or guests.

For example, a drop down menu like:
- General Comment
- User Support
- Report an Image
- Report Error

How can I incorporate such a drop down menu within this MOD?

add both domains in you recaptcha account.
