I would like to make a suggestion:
In the install instructions, have people chmod before they run the installer, which will get rid of this error:
http://www.4homepages.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3319[Edit]: Actually, if you do the normal chmods, then do a chmod of 777 on the directory you are installing, you won't get the error above, you just need to remember to chmod back to 755 (or whatever your particular server default is)
Just some food for thought.
