GIF thumbs with Image Magick?

Apparently Image Magick is making JPG thumbnails. Is there any way to make it make GIFs instead?
(I would use GD Bibliothek if it worked. lol)

I think, .gif only good for "desktop" color palete (simple graphic), that requered only 256 colors, when image is more "complicated", like a photo, then, your .gifs will be awfol quality and might be bigger in filesize then .jpg
