I add a new category. But I can not find a folder inside media folder???

I did click control panel & add a new category.
& I try to deleted it via ftp ( data > media>) -delete the category it created and recreate it again
But the problem is.. I cannot find the category under the media. All I saw is a index.html??
Please help me
