Gallery hacked, upgrade wanted

Hi

Some months ago our gallery was hacked and code was added. I removed what I could find but did not find it all. Consequently it doesn't all work. Registration doesn't work, neither does uploading pics. As I am using 1.7.4 perhaps upgrading to 1.7.6 might be the answer providing the damaged files are replaced.

The gallery was installed by fantastico but upgrading via fantastico is not an option any more. What should I do, what is the best way to proceed please?

It would be appreciated if someone could answer this fairly simple problem. All I am asking is what files should NOT be replaced when upgrading with the MAXIMUM number of files - in order to eliminate the damaged/bugged files.
