Hello All...,

I have a working site with v1.7.6 along with several modifications (3 columns layout, comments, etc.), which I forgot already which files have been modified or what else have been changed. It's been running fine for almost a year now.

if.., according to update documentation, in order to upgrade to v1.7.7 I will have to replace all files with the files from the 4images1.7.7.zip,  will it make all my previous modifications back to default settings again?
because all the modified .php or .html files will be replace with the ones from the v1.7.7 files.

any safe procedure to retain all the modifications?
or is it the expected result from a version upgrade that all modifications will be lost?

Thank you for the explanation.
regards,
/di2t

d1eter,

yes, if you replace php files, all inplemented MODs will be LOST....

BUT
in http://www.4homepages.de/forum/index.php?topic=24794.msg135730#msg135730
is described what is changed from 1.7.6 to 1.7.7
maybe that would be helpful for you..
cheers
Nicky

meaning.., I could selectively replace only those files, listed in the new and changed files..., to my current 4images server to retain the modifications?

Replacing the files is equal to loosing any modifications you've previously made in these files. You can try manually do the changes described in the provided post, by doing so probably will leave your previous changes intact.

P.S.
don't forget do backups if you attempt do anything ;)

thanx V@no..,

based on your past and long experiences with 4images, how do you suggest updating a working 4images websites (with mods installed here and there) to a latest official release version?

ps: this will be my first time upgrading 4images web.  I started with v1.7.6 version.

thank you!

first make complete backup of your website, at least all .php files
then follow the instructions from Nicky's link.

v1.7.7 is basically bug fixes of v1.7.6. most changes included in v1.7.7 are already published in our bugs section, so if you previously applied these fixes, you might find that your version is already near 1.7.7 as it is ;) (hope this isn't too confusing..)
