Different settings for subcategories possible?

Hi,
in the settings I can configure the number of table cells for the categories.

Is it possible to have different settings for main categories and subcategories?

I have three table cells for the main categories.
The subcategories are going to be the alphabet A-Z so the category names
of the subcategories will be short (one letter) and I would prefer to have 5 or even more
table cells for the subcategories.

Is there a way to configure (only) the subcategories this way?

Thank you ... I will look into this. Maybe I find there another idea how to handle this.

I have just installed the new version 1.7.2.

In the category settings there is an option to move categories.

Anybody else here where this doesn't work through the edit link?

I can move it upwards and downwards in single steps. But if I want to configure it
through the link 'edit' the changes won't be saved and the category remains where it has been before.
