FTP Upload
« on: July 06, 2005, 12:22:49 AM »
Hi Guys ,
I have been using 4images for long time . previously where i had my site , i usually allowed normal users to upload via browser i.e the gallery script ... and often myself uploaded files directly to the /data/media/xyz/ folders via FTP .
Then used the Checkimages mod to validate the new images .

Now i have shifted the site to a new server and moved the files and folders . Everything is working perfectly .... except i cant upload by FTP ... getting permission denied . Folders are in 755

I asked my ISP and they went in and diagnosed saying i cant upload directly by my FTP user account as " gallery/data/media " folders  ....  only httpd user have privilage to upload to that folder .
How can i solve this , coz nothing is changed from the ropevious files and mods i had . What do i need to do ? please advise .

DOH! is that all your hoster told u? was there something like this too "*cough* u'r screwed buddy *cough*" ?

seriously, only users with root access can change owner of the folders/files so, only your hoster can fix it for u.

P.S. I'm confused...how come if folders are CHMOD 755 u can not write in these folders? doesnt sounds right to me...

is ok , my hoster would be friendlty enough to change the permissions ... can u tell me what is the proper permission ... what should i tell them to do to set this right ?

they said ... the folders are created by the script which runs as httpd . thats why when uploading from script it is allowing upload , but when i am accessing the folders via FTP which is as a FTP user, that is why i cant write on them

please tell me what should be proper permissions and ownerships for this folders under /data/media/

i have tried uploading in otjer folders like templates/default or /gallery ... it is ok . only not in the /data/media folders .
