Urgent HELP needed regarding email sending
« on: June 23, 2003, 03:25:12 PM »
Guys I moved host and everything else works fine in my gallery. I have a large gallery and new users are registering but emails are not being sent to them i.e activation code.

i checked by trying to send mail via the gallery to some users.

this is msg i get "Error sending email!"

with smtp enable and entyering localhost in field i get this message

"Email Error: RCPT TO invalid mail server response: 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
"

checked my php settings using the phpinfo command and they are

sendmail_from        me@localhost.com

sendmail_path          /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

plz i need solution as im getiting new members at the rate of 30-40 per day.

BTW:: I have checked the forums here extensively. NO solution has yet been proposed so im hoping someone is kind enough to post it now, thats if tehre is one!!

it's a matter of your smtp/pop server configuration and has nothing to do with 4images.  ask your host to configure it for you (to accept mails from localhost)

Are you SURE you need to use SMTP to send emails?

Try this: http://www.4homepages.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3162

And if you REALLY need to use SMTP, localhost.com is certainly not your domain name, right?

vivid news i didnt use smtp! i tried it to see if it works but it doesnt also!

i used the norml setting of no smtp and i got error mentioned above

then tried smtp with localhost setting and got dioffernety error mentione d above

so basically there are those two settings to send mail and BOTH dont work for me.

so my users can never get the activation key and thus not use the gallery.

so  tahts why im asking for a solution rather than trying the same setings again again.

this means, that the mail server denyed request sending email, ask your host about it.
P.S. I dont think this error acur when u use php buildin function mail(), but not SMTP

i read that and ALL the relevant topics in the forum. What u are proposing is the default setting in 4images. i.e no smtp. but as mentioned in this thread NONE of the settings work!

That's right.  I proposed using the php built-in mail() function, you asked me how to use that, and I pointed you to the FAQ post about it.

If it doesn't work for you, read this: http://us4.php.net/manual/en/ref.mail.php
and then consult your host about this issue.  If your host is unresponsive and doesn't help, I can only suggest you find another host.  There is no "workaround" for this case.
