Well then, have we got any takers?!

I don't fully understand the question, but if you are just looking for a way to change the category order without having 4images refresh the screen each time, then put a textbox next to each category, where the admin can enter the a sort order number.  Once each category has a number next to it, then click on a "Sort Categories" button.

Eg...

    [1]  A Category
    [4]  Another Category
    [3]  And another
    [2]  The second category
    [/list:u]
When the admin clicks the "Sort Categories" button, the categories would become sorted as follows...
      [1]  A Category
      [2]  The second category
      [3]  And another
      [4]  Another Category
      [/list:u]

That way, the list would only be refreshed once making it a lot quicker for dialup connections.

If you e-mail me (alan@qcs-software.com) a username and password, I will setup an account for you on one of our SMTP servers so you can use that.

Installation, Update & Configuration / How to set up SMPT details...
« on: August 25, 2002, 07:59:27 PM »
Hi,

That would seem to indicate that the server is either down, or rejecting your request to send e-mail through their server.

Again, I recommend that you just pick "No" on the "Use SMTP" option, and let 4images/PHP worry about sending e-mails.  The end result is the same, it just doesn't travel through your isp's smtp server.

Try sending an e-mail after setting "USE SMTP Server" to no, and if it doesn't work, I can set you up a smtp account on one of our servers (for free) if you want, so that you can sent e-mail through us instead of your isp's server.

Thanks,
Alan.

Hi,

If you are trying to use bin/sendmail, then you are using sendmail on your server, not your ISP's sendmail server.

The simplest way to get 4images to send e-mails, is to not use SMTP / Sendmail at all.  In your 4images CP -> Settings -> General Settings, set "Use SMTP Server" to "No", and leave the SMTP fields below it blank.

Do this, and if it works, and sends an e-mail (there is no reason why it shouldn't), then you don't need to use Sendmail at all.

However, if you really feel the need to use sendmail, the fields should read as follows ...

SMTP Server Host: localhost (or the name of another smtp server, such as smtp.myisp.com)
SMTP Username: Your username (if required - check with ISP)
SMTP Password: Your password (if required - check with ISP).

My apologies if I havn't explained this very well.

Thanks,
Alan.

Hi,

A few things to check would be ...

    1.  Is your ISP's smtp mail server acctually online?
    2.  Have you entered the correct server name for your ISP's smtp server and any login details (if appropriate).
    3.  Does your ISP allow external connections to it's SMTP server?  Most only allow people connecting from their own dialup to send mail through their smtp servers (which your server isn't).
    4.  If none of the above helps, try not using the SMTP options, and let 4images send any e-mails directly.

    Thanks,
    Alan.

Mods & Plugins (Requests & Discussions) / download log?
« on: August 25, 2002, 05:01:54 PM »
Hi,

The trouble with a download log, is it could only capture downloads via the zip/download buttons.  If a user just dragged the picture onto their desktop or into a folder on their machine, it wouldn't catch that.

But... It is fairly easy to do.  Just look through the PHP code (sorry, I forget which files off-hand) to find the bits which activate the download, and add a line in their to either write the details to a text file or to a sql table.

Sorry I can't write the code at the moment, or be more specific, but I don't have access to our servers from here, so cannot look at any of the 4images files.

Thanks,
Alan.

Discussion & Troubleshooting / Right-Click disable? HELLLLLP!
« on: August 25, 2002, 04:57:51 PM »
Hi,

The easiest way would be to just download the template HEADER.HTML via FTP, remove the right-click restriction js, then upload it again.

Thanks,
Alan.

Hi,

Depending on the amount of traffic to your 4images site, we could host your MySQL database for you for free.

Let me know, and we'll organise moving the database.

Many thanks,
Alan.

Hi Nicky,

Just to update you, I am planning to install 4images on M$SQL, PostgreSQL and Ingress from a fresh clean install this weekend.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks,
Alan.

Hi,

Take a look at http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Full_table.html

The most likely reason in your situation is the first one on the above page (unless you have over 2gb of data in your 4images table).

The easiest fix would probably be to upgrade MySQL to v3.23+, or try some of the other fixes listed on the above page.

Thanks,
Alan.

Discussion & Troubleshooting / Upload From URL

Hi,

This isn't possible (afaik) in 4images as it stands at the moment, but would be a useful feature in 4images.  Jan?  :D

Thanks,
Alan.
