Chit Chat / Microsoft Powered GM's New Car
« on: March 03, 2006, 06:26:16 PM »
Note: found else where on the internet!

Microsoft Powered GM's New Car

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up
with the technology like the computer industry has, we would all be
driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release
stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft,

we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1) For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2) Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to
buy a new car.

3) Occasionally your car would stall on the freeway for no reason.
You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the
windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before
you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4) Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause
your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would
have to remove and reinstall the engine.

5) Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was
reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive -- but would
run on only five percent of the roads.

6) The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would
all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal
Operation" warning light.

7) The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8.) Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock
you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted
the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9) Every time a new car was introduced, car buyers would have to
learn how to drive all over again, because none of the controls
would operate in the same manner as the old car.
You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Chit Chat / Who Makes Better Toasters?
« on: March 03, 2006, 05:48:52 PM »
Note: found else where on the internet!

Who Makes Better Toasters?

If IBM made toasters... They would want one big toaster where people bring bread to be submitted for overnight
toasting. IBM would claim a worldwide market for five, maybe six toasters.

If Xerox made toasters... You could toast one sided or double sided. Successive slices would get lighter and
lighter. The toaster would jam your bread for you.

If Radio Shack made toasters... The staff would sell you a toaster, but not know anything about it. Or you could
buy all the parts to build your own toaster.

If University of Waterloo made toasters... They would immediately spin off a company called WatToast.

If ParcPlace made toasters... Their OO building block system would be called EGGO.

If Oracle made toasters... They'd claim their toaster was compatible with all brands and styles of bread, but
when you got it home you'd discover the Bagel Engine was still in development, the Croissant Extension was three
years away, and that indeed the whole appliance was just blowing smoke.

If Sun made toasters... The toast would burn often, but you could get a really good cuppa Java.

Does DEC still make toasters?... They made good toasters in the '80s, didn't they?

If Hewlett Packard made toasters... They would market the Reverse Polish Toaster, which takes in toast and gives
you regular bread.

If Tandem made toasters... You could make toast 24 hours a day, and if a piece got burned the toaster would
automatically toast you a new one.

If Thinking Machines made toasters... You would be able to toast 64,000 pieces of bread at the same time.

If Cray made toasters... They would cost $16 million but would be faster than any other single slice toaster in
the world.

If The Rand Corporation made toasters... It would be a large, perfectly smooth and seamless black cube. Every
morning there would be a piece of toast on top of it. Their service department would have an unlisted phone
number, and the blueprints for the box would be highly classified government documents. The X-Files would have
an episode about it.

If the NSA made toasters... Your toaster would have a secret trap door that only the NSA could access in case
they needed to get at your toast for reasons of national security.

If Sony made toasters... The ToastMan, which would be barely larger than the single piece of bread it is meant
to toast, can be conveniently attached to your belt.

If Timex made toasters... They would be cheap and small quartz crystal wrist toasters that take a licking and
keep on toasting.

If Fisher Price made toasters... "Baby's First Toaster" would have a hand crank that you turn to toast the bread
that pops up like a Jack in the box.

If the Franklin Mint made toasters... Every month, you would receive another lovely hand crafted piece of your
authentic hand crafted Civil War pewter toaster.

If CostCo made toasters... They'd be really cheap, as long as you bought a six pack of 'em.

If Microsoft made toasters... Every time you bought a loaf of bread, you would have to buy a toaster. You
wouldn't have to take the toaster, but you'd still have to pay for it anyway. Toaster'95 would weigh 15000
pounds (hence requiring a reinforced steel countertop), draw enough electricity to power a small city, take up
95% of the space in your kitchen, would claim to be the first toaster that lets you control how light or dark
you want your toast to be, and would secretly interrogate your other appliances to find out who made them.
Everyone would hate Microsoft toasters, but none the less would buy them since most of the good bread only works
with their toasters.

If Apple made toasters... It would do everything the Microsoft toaster does, but 5 years earlier.

Discussion & Troubleshooting / Double thumbnails in database
« on: February 25, 2006, 02:13:44 PM »

Recently I have having this problem with double thumbnails,  8O 8O 8O

First I add the images (uploading in bulk by FTP to relative directory), then I use file check plug in to see everything is ok,
it shows "error" that some images does not have thumbnail,
Now if I make it from auto-thumbnail, it becomes double copy.. And If I delete them (the double thumnail) then the enlarged version is also deleted and it’s a mess….

another member with similar problem, but there its was not solved!
http://www.4homepages.de/forum/index.php?topic=2911.0

any way to solve this, meaning only to remove the double image thumbnail from database only? without removing its enlarged version

Thanks :D

4images is the best, and the best can still get better!

Working on a categorized site full of images, I have noticed that sometimes its really difficult to organize it, suppose if u have 30 categories its really difficult for a visitor to go thorough all of them if they are not organized and ordered…

say for e.g. by alphabetic order,
now we can do it manualy, if we add 31st category, the trouble is that we have to organize it to order one by one, moving it one by one up or down…. it a troublesome job….

MOD request:
arrange categories in alphabetic order and make it separate like in blocks (see picture)

Thanks in advance

I have been using this mod to make dynamic meta description tags and meta keywords tags… I am very happy with the results  in all pages other than homepage….  :?

Quote
<meta name="description" content="some blabla, {cat_name} bla bla. Download {cat_name} bla bla, …….., free {cat_name} for download……..">
<meta name="keywords" content="{image_name},{cat_name},free ……..{cat_name} …… {cat_name} ……..">

in homepage the category name and image name becomes same as the new image cat and image name… how do I mage the homepage tags static and others dynamic…. is there any check or conditional tags we can apply to check if its home.html or other templates….

Thanks

Chit Chat / 4images and wallpaper site
« on: February 04, 2006, 01:58:35 PM »
I am planning to start a wallpaper site, and has given first preference to 4images. Usually all good wallpaper sites offer multiple resolution wallpaper downloads like 1600*1200, 1024*786, 1200*1024…  :)

Is it possible to make such a site using 4images? :?

Thanks :D

Chit Chat / Search Engine Google's Anatomy
« on: January 26, 2006, 03:20:18 AM »
Interesting info: http://www-db.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html
its the university project Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page submitted at Stanford university and later made Google, actually both of them made Google based on another search engine (also project at Stanford university) called backrub (analyzing back links to webpage to figure out which page is important, based on the number of back links)

in this page you can get a brief detail of how Google engine works.....

Its would be really cool if we can make an address book were registered members can add their friends emails into there personal profile address book and later when sending an eCards from the site, the address can be looked up (just like email systems) or even better if we can auto complete the address just like yahoo mail,

this will encourage people to send more eCards, as it gives advantage on easy filling in the address.... and advanced function can be, auto filling and like the user send the eCards, and we have an option, "Add to address book"

p.s would be usefull if we can send multiple eCards (very useful on special occasion like valentines day) and the receiver gets only her ;) “to” address and not the other emails in this bulk… how would your babe feel if she sees that the same card is send to another 15 hot chicks, all in one shot ;) and also add an image verification like the one V@no made for registration to combat SPAM

Hello

1) How can we show a tool tip on images, if the user is not logged in, or does not have the required permission (like on V@no’s site ;) )

2) What code should be added to the home page, template, so that if the use is not logged in, we can show a specific message (like login and have fun etc…) and if logged in, then another message....

I know it must have been discussed here in the forum, but I am not able to find it here, please hint me if any,

Thanks

Chit Chat / Rounded Corners without images !!!
« on: January 21, 2006, 01:49:43 AM »
An intresting share:

Nifty corners have been around for a while but we've just found them. Yes we're late, but did you know about them yourself ?

what do they do : they just display a nice rounded table around any html text, with just a few lines of css and javascript interdependant code . The only thing is that it requires a onload modification, which is why we don't demo it here. For a full explanation and demo, go to the original :

http://pro.html.it/esempio/nifty/

variations exist an improvements too : Snazzy Borders is even better as it adds a 1px border around the block.

http://www.cssplay.co.uk/boxes/snazzy.html

different in technique but similar in result is
