Adding a description field to category pages..

I was wondering whether:

A) it is possible to add a second description field, which would be filled in by the user when creating a new category, and subsequently appear on the page for that category when called?
(this would be seperate from the existing description field which is attached to the category list on the homepage).

or B) it is possible to seperate the description field from the category list on the homepage and have this description called on the main page for that category?

Any suggestions as to how i might achieve this?

this would be nice

i want to have a description to my categories but i don't want that description to show on index.php
any ideas?
