CAN'T SEND EMAIL

HI,
Can someone plz tell me how to fix this error. I can't send email, my host is brinkster and they are telling me I can't use localhost.
This is the error I am getting while sending postcard.

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25, verify your "SMTP" and "smtp_port" setting in php.ini or use ini_set() in C:\sites\single\johnya\webroot\ecards\includes\email.php on line 171

Please be precise with instructions and tell me which file and bit of code I need to change as I am not too familiar with this.
